Molly's Time Portal Clock 20cm
Molly’s Time Portal
The Outer Ring — Seconds & Hours
The journey begins on the outside of the portal with the 60-second intervals, marking the seconds that tick by, and highlighted are the 5 second intervals..
The hours are shown in Roman numerals which were traditionally used in many clocks.
These symbols highlight the fact that they appear in many old buildings, books and names.
We replaced IV with IIII which is used in many old clocks for visual symmetry and aesthetic balance across the clock face. The roman numerals are divided by rectangles that can be incorporated into the color scheme.
The Zodiac Ring — The Sky Above Us
Moving inwards, the astrological signs form a complete circle around the clock.
This circle represents the sky above our heads and the continual movement
of the zodiac through the heavens.
The Months & Seasons — The Turning of the Year
The months can be painted into four parts for the seasons of the year,
with their position a little offset to the corresponding star signs.
Together, they show how our calendar year moves through
the changing seasons and the cycles of mother nature.
The Turtle — The Lunar Cycle
At the very centre sits our turtle artwork which consists of 28 outer scutes of the shell representing the approximately 28 days of the lunar cycle. While the 13 inner scutes represent
the 13 lunar cycles that make up a year (13x28=364).
A natural connection with the approximately 28-day female menstrual cycle,
reminding us of the close relationship between the Moon, nature and the rhythms of life.
Novum Tempus — A New Time
At the heart of the idea behind Molly’s Time Portal is Novum tempus, meaning “new time.” This can represent a new season, or even a new way of looking at things in relation to the different measures of time.
Together these layers create a way of seeing time as a collection of interconnected cycles, from seconds and hours, to months and seasons, the Moon, the stars and the natural rhythms that surrounding us.
